Phylogenetic analysis and trait evolution of ant cocoons

چکیده

Abstract Most ant species have lost the ability to spin cocoons. To explore evolution of cocoon loss within Formicidae, we perform an ancestral state reconstruction cocooned pupae across a genus-level phylogeny and use sister clade analysis determine impact on speciation. Then, fit models correlated between status several other organismal traits. We find that re-emergence cocoons is rare “naked” lineages display increased rate speciation in 5 out 9 group comparisons. Models with were favored for metapleural gland worker polymorphism. Metapleural rates inconclusive, while polymorphism displayed higher transition towards coupled loss. These results suggest may allow complex traits develop represent novel example relaxed selection.

Trait Evolution on Phylogenetic Networks 3

14 Species may evolve on a reticulate network due to hybridization or other gene flow rather than 15 on a strictly bifurcating tree, but comparative methods to deal with trait evolution on a network 16 are lacking. We create such a method, which uses a Brownian motion model. Our method seeks 17 to separately or jointly detect a bias in trait value coming from hybridization (í µí»½) and a burst ...

Phylocom: software for the analysis of phylogenetic community structure and trait evolution

MOTIVATION The increasing availability of phylogenetic and trait data for communities of co-occurring species has created a need for software that integrates ecological and evolutionary analyses. Capabilities: Phylocom calculates numerous metrics of phylogenetic community structure and trait similarity within communities. Hypothesis testing is implemented using several null models. Within the s...

Evolution of clouds in radio galaxy cocoons

This letter presents a numerical study of the evolution of an emission line cloud of initial density 10 cm, temperature 10 K, and size 200 pc, being overtaken by a strong shock wave. Whereas previous simple models proposed that such a cloud would either be completely destroyed, or simply shrink in size, our results show a different and more complex behaviour: due to rapid cooling, the cloud bre...

A Relaxed Drift Diffusion Model for Phylogenetic Trait Evolution

Understanding the processes that give rise to quantitative measurements associated with molecular sequence data remains an important issue in statistical phylogenetics. Examples of such measurements include geographic coordinates in the context of phylogeography and phenotypic traits in the context of comparative studies. A popular approach is to model the evolution of continuously varying trai...
